lắng. . . is a Vietnamese intergenerational memory project. Young people interview war veterans and people who lived through that history, and keep their stories before that generation is gone. I designed and built its website: Vietnamese first with an English version, and an editor the team uses to place and swap their own photographs.

What it is
lắng. . . stands for lắng nghe và lắng đọng: listen, and let it settle. It's a project that connects the generations of Vietnam. Young people sit down with veterans and historical witnesses, hear history from the people who made it, and preserve those stories.
What I built
I designed and built the public website. Vietnamese is the main language, and the Vietnamese copy is word for word from the project's own proposal. English lives at its own address as a close translation, and switching languages is just two links, so neither version needs JavaScript and both can be shared and found in search.
Every font on it covers the full set of Vietnamese diacritics. Part of the audience is elderly, so when a device asks for reduced motion, all motion turns off.
The team manages its own photographs through an editor I built into the site: they can swap or re-crop any picture on the established pages in both languages at once, save it as a draft, and the project's owner publishes it.
