From the Chrome Web Store listing

The Debate Buddy is a Chrome extension I built for Policy, LD, and PF debaters. You highlight evidence on any page and it cuts the card for you: the tag, the underlining, the trimming, and the MLA 9 citation. Cards go straight into your Google Doc, and there's a card library and a counterargument engine for prep. It's live on the Chrome Web Store with free and paid tiers.

The problem

If you debate Policy, LD, or PF you know how prep goes. You find an article, highlight the lines you'd actually read out loud, write a tag, trim everything else, and format the citation, then you do the whole thing again for the next card. A round needs a lot of cards so it adds up fast.

What it does

The Debate Buddy is a Chrome extension that does the cutting. You highlight evidence on any page and it writes the tag from the warrant, underlines what you'd underline, trims the rest, and pulls a full MLA 9 citation off the page, so you're checking a card instead of building one from nothing.

Finished cards go straight into the Google Doc where your prep lives, without leaving the page you're reading. The side panel is split into Research, Round, Organize, and Intel, and there's a card library to search plus a counterargument engine that drafts what the other side will say back and finds the cards to answer it.

How I built it

I own the whole stack: the extension in React and TypeScript on Vite, auth and data in Supabase, subscriptions in Stripe, and a Next.js landing site on Vercel. I write the spec before the code and drive the build with AI coding agents.

Running it for real

It's live on the Chrome Web Store with free and paid tiers, and billing runs through Stripe. There's an ambassador program with high school debaters in Pakistan and Turkey that runs on an application form on the site, and getting listed on ecdatabase.org turned into the main source of applicants. I do the marketing myself on Instagram, Reddit, and TikTok, cut the promo video, and send cold outreach every week.
